Alonim 2000 Reunites for a Grand Ole Time
By: David Feldman, Alonim 2000
I admit I had my hesitations when I received
my invitation to the Alonim 2000 reunion.
Now, I always knew I was going to go and
there was always a Yacht Club fire pit of
excitement flaming over it, but there were
several red flags, soy butter not included.
For one, it's never normal seeing someone,
a former friend in this case, who you haven't
seen in 10-plus years -- I assure you of that. I
don't care if you were once co-pilots
gunbucking through Desert Storm together,
10 years is too long of a period to see
someone who robbed you of shekels of tuck
after countless tetherball games gone bad.
And two, I left camp on a high note and,
frankly, I didn't want to mess with a good
thing.
I had a gas of a time as Rosh Edat
Maghimim back in '06 -- our staff dance was
flawless and in good taste, I was five-to-seven
pounds lighter, and my basketball
jumper was in Jeff Hornacek range versus
the Greg Ostertag state it's currently in.
With that said, my time at the reunion
exceeded all expectations.
From the tzevet I
had already known, to Michael and Ariella,
and to the new kids on the block I had
never seen before, everyone was
extraordinarily welcoming and more
importantly, didn't look at me with those
"whoa, who is that old guy?" goggles.
Furthermore, it re-cemented my love and
unconsumed burning bush for camp. I can
only hope future edot follow our lead and
do the same for years to come. But, yeah,
stay away from the soy butter.
