LEE KARELITZ
Camper years: 1968-1973 + Seminar 1974
Staff years: 1975-1979
Current city of residence: Green, Ohio (between Akron and Canton)
City of residence when attending camp: Pittsburgh
Family details: Married for 25 years to Paulette. Two daughters, Ashley (21), a junior at Miami University and Caitlin (17), a junior in high school
Current occupation: Corporate office manager for a grocery store chain (Fishers Foods) in Canton, OH for the past 18 months, after spending 28 years at the Kmart Corporation
A fond camp memory: A lot of great friends and experiences. One thing that sticks out in my mind is the last few days of every summer. We tried to cram everything into the last four or five days.
Best thing about camp: Hard to pinpoint, but if I had to narrow it down (not done) to one thing, it is the people that I met over the years. While I don't stay in touch with them now (other than Facebook and the like), these friends were a huge part of my life.
Worst thing about camp: After a heavy rain, the sewage would back up. The second worst thing was the pancakes. Do you think that they are related? It was those days that you hoped that you had a cabin on a hill.
Favourite camp meal: Grilled cheese

| CAROL LOUIK
Camper years: 1961-1963
Staff years: 1965
Current city of residence: Brookline, MA
City of residence when attending camp: Pittsburgh
Family details: Two incredibly wonderful children, Andrew Karr (age 33) and Abigail Karr (age 31), both professional classical musicians. Andrew lives in Tampa, FL and Abby lives in Boston. With very little prompting, I could talk about them for days!
Current occupation: Epidemiologist on the faculty of Boston University of Public Health. I mostly do research on environmental causes of birth defects, but I also teach pharmacoepidemiology. However, I spend much more time playing my oboe in ensembles, large and small, almost every night of the week. In fact, I still go to “camp” every summer in Vermont to play chamber music.
A fond camp memory: Our performance of “Pirates of Penzance”. I now play in the pit for a lot of amateur Gilbert and Sullivan productions and I always get a big laugh when I tell people I can sing “Pirates” in Hebrew!
Best thing about camp: Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat services. There was such a special feeling of peace descending over the camp as the sun set, just like the words of the song we sang. And then I loved all the singing and dancing after dinner.
Worst thing about camp: Waking up early in the morning (it’s still hard!), especially when it was so cold. I just hated throwing back the blankets and getting out of bed. In fact (true confession), I occasionally faked sickness just so I could stay in the infirmary for a day or two and sleep late.
Favourite camp meal: I don’t remember camp food that much. I remember that I hated Saturday lunch and dinner, but other than that, all I remember is peanut butter and jelly being available at every meal.

Best thing about camp: Spending summers doing the things I loved with my closest friends
Worst thing about camp: That it had to end each summer!
Favourite camp meal: Grilled cheese

NOAH SLEPKOV
Camper years: 1989
Staff years: 1991-2005
Current city of residence: Tel Aviv
City of residence when attending camp: St Catharines, Ontario
Current occupation: Advisor to Member of Knesset Dr. Einat Wilf
A fond camp memory: All my years at camp merge into one vivid fond memory. Having said that, I will always cherish the feeling of walking into an empty cabin at the beginning of each summer. It was a feeling that no time had elapsed between the end of one summer and the beginning of the next. There was a comfort in knowing that the bonds and relationships that had developed over the previous summers would not begin anew, but would pick up exactly where they left off. And yet the empty cabin always seemed to symbolize the start of something fresh and exciting.
Best thing about camp: It uniquely fosters the development of deep and meaningful relationships through the context of a Jewish/Zionist community. I cannot fathom who I would be today if I had not been shaped by my summers at camp.
Worst thing about camp: Two things: that they don’t have ‘tuck cards’ anymore and that the summers have to end.
Favourite camp meal: Grilled cheese |
