ADDITIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS:
PLEASE REVIEW WITH YOUR CHILD
POLICY ON DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
The use of drugs and the consumption of alcoholic beverages are strictly
prohibited at camp. Any campers or staff members found in possession or
under the influence of illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages will be subject
to immediate dismissal from camp.
CIGARETTE SMOKING
Campers are not permitted to smoke cigarettes at any time or any place
during their stay at camp. Staff members are strongly discouraged from
smoking at all times, and may only smoke at specifically designated times
and places and never when campers are present.
GAMBLING
With the increased marketing of gambling in the general culture and the ever increasing media exposure of Professional Poker Tournaments on cable tv, we are starting to see campers coming to camp with an expectation to play cards for money.
Our camp policy is that occasional recreational card playing is permitted. Campers gambling for money is absolutely prohibited and is grounds for dismissal from camp.
CURFEWS
Life at camp is in many ways more active than one’s normal routine at home.
Each edah, depending on the age of the campers, has a set curfew time.
Consistent violation of curfew is unacceptable and may result in dismissal.
RELIGIOUS POLICY
Respectful of the pluralistic nature of the Conservative Movement, various
minyanim will be held in our camp. Minyanim with opportunities for female
leadership, as well as those in which males serve as leaders, will be
available. All services at Ramah will consider the religious sensitivities
of each camper. A mincha service for all campers and staff in Tzirim (Grade
7) and older is also a part of the daily schedule.
RESPECT FOR PROPERTY
All campers and staff are responsible for maintaining the beauty and
physical condition of camp. Any vandalism or destruction of camp property by
campers will result in damages being assessed and charged to the camper’s
family. There will be a minimum standard charge of $100.00 per incident
each time graffiti is placed in any public place including on a new building
or a recently painted or re-paneled wall. Graffiti can appear in many
different ways. Sometimes one camper or a group of campers take it upon
themselves to write the names of all of the campers in their tzrif on camp
property. Since we have no way to determine who caused the damage, the cost
will be assessed and divided up among the whole tzrif unless the responsible
party comes forward. Please review this policy with your child before the
camp season. All charges will be sent home after the full camp season.
Camp Ramah prides itself on developing a warm, supportive community. We
place a great deal of trust in every member of our camp community, and we
expect everyone to respect the privacy and personal property of others.
Please discuss the importance of this respect with your child, and remind
him/her that it is crucial that s/he never disturb, borrow, or take anything
from another person's belongings.
All campers in a bunk, along with the bunk counselors, are responsible for
the cleanliness and general safety conditions of the bunk. In addition,
everyone participates, at scheduled times, in a general clean up of the
camp.
No firecrackers (including sparklers), army knives, jack knives, cigarette
lighters, matches, drug paraphernalia, martial arts equipment, skateboards,
laser-pens, guns, or other possibly dangerous items are permitted in camp.
No cellular phones, televisions, laptops, walkie talkies or beepers are
allowed, as they interfere with the camp environment. Such instruments will
be confiscated and returned at the end of the season.
Romantic relationships sometimes develop during the summer. It is expected
that campers will exhibit appropriate and modest behaviour consistent with
our tradition at all times. Inappropriate behaviour may result in dismissal
from camp.
While the privacy of individuals at camp is a value we teach and respect,
the needs of the community sometimes supersede the needs of the individual.
If the health or safety of other campers or staff indicates a need, campers
may be asked to have their belongings searched and inventoried in the
presence of two designated staff members. It must be noted that boys are not
allowed in girls bunks, and girls are never allowed in boys bunks.
