LANGUAGE
Swearing or cursing, whether in anger, on the ball field or in casual conversation, does not have a place in a Jewish educational setting. We live in a world filled with increased cursing and verbal abuse. We want to create a positive and healthy atmosphere in our Ramah community. Using inappropriate language sets a bad example for campers, who are constantly looking to staff as role model. Therefore, please refrain from the use of inappropriate language in camp.

"Lashon Hara" - Gossip, slander, talking about people behind their backs - is an equally offensive, inappropriate and un-Jewish use of language. It creates a negative atmosphere and a lack of trust among co-workers. In a camp community, it is sometimes difficult to avoid "Lashon Hara". You should make every effort to do so, and to object when you hear it from others. This will go a long way toward a healthy and positive environment, for both campers and staff.

Working at camp is a tough job. At some point during the summer the campers will push you to your limits. Walk away. Never yell, curse, scream, or threaten a camper.

There is a fine line between discipline and psychological abuse ("If you don't make your bed by the time I count to three, you're going to be very sorry", or "If I hear you making noise before my alarm goes off in the morning, there's going to be serious consequences!"). Be careful of threats, jokes, and the way you speak to both campers and fellow staff members.

LAUNDRY
Camp Ramah provides each staff member with access to the weekly camp laundry service free of charge. If you choose not to use this service, please notify the office at camp, as we pay for each staff member using this service. There will be coin operated machines available for staff use. Camp Ramah does not take responsibility for damage to any items sent to the camp laundry.

LEAVING CAMP
Except for days off, no staff member may leave camp for any reason without the approval of his/her supervisor, and without signing out in the official register. NO STAFF MEMBER MAY EVER LEAVE CAMP DURING DAYTIME HOURS, except those performing official camp business and only WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE CAMP DIRECTOR.

MEDICAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
All staff members are required to have completed and returned to the camp office their medical form. No staff member can be accepted into camp without a completed medical form. Staff who do not comply will be required to be examined by the camp physician or be taken to a local doctor for examination, and will be charged administrative and medical costs that will be deducted from the staff member's paycheck. There is no exception to this policy.

Staff must also be perceptive of their camper's well being, take all complaints seriously and ensure that illnesses, infections, injuries or any other medical conditions affecting a camper are dealt with immediately. Staff can take their camper to the Mirpa'ah (Infirmary) during "sick call" for routine problems or anytime in the event of an emergency. As well, if your camper takes daily medication, YOU must make sure they visit the Mirpa'ah during medication times. Staff must also remember to have all campers apply appropriate sunscreen and insect repellant each day.

If you do not feel well, please go to the Mirpa'ah for treatment. Everyone can occasionally feel a little under the weather but sleeping in, skipping activities and not going to work is unacceptable unless "prescribed" by our medical staff. If you feel too ill to work, you must go to the Mir[pa'ah for care. While we have the utmost concern for your well being, prolonged illnesses and absence from work could result in the loss of days off or termination of your employment.
