STAFF HANDBOOK
LANGUAGE
"Lashon Hara" - Gossip, slander, talking about people behind their backs - is an equally offensive, inappropriate and un-Jewish use of language. It creates a negative atmosphere and a lack of trust among co-workers. In a camp community, it is sometimes difficult to avoid "Lashon Hara". You should make every effort to do so, and to object when you hear it from others. This will go a long way toward a healthy and positive environment, for both campers and staff.
Working at camp is a tough job. At some point during the summer the campers will push you to your limits. Walk away. Never yell, curse, scream, or threaten a camper.
There is a fine line between discipline and psychological abuse ("If you don't make your bed by the time I count to three, you're going to be very sorry", or "If I hear you making noise before my alarm goes off in the morning, there's going to be serious consequences!"). Be careful of threats, jokes, and the way you speak to both campers and fellow staff members.
LAUNDRY
LEAVING CAMP MEDICAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
Staff must also be perceptive of their camper's well being, take all complaints seriously and ensure that illnesses, infections, injuries or any other medical conditions affecting a camper are dealt with immediately. Staff can take their camper to the Mirpa'ah (Infirmary) during "sick call" for routine problems or anytime in the event of an emergency. As well, if your camper takes daily medication, YOU must make sure they visit the Mirpa'ah during medication times. Staff must also remember to have all campers apply appropriate sunscreen and insect repellant each day.
If you do not feel well, please go to the Mirpa'ah for treatment. Everyone can occasionally feel a little under the weather but sleeping in, skipping activities and not going to work is unacceptable unless "prescribed" by our medical staff. If you feel too ill to work, you must go to the Mir[pa'ah for care. While we have the utmost concern for your well being, prolonged illnesses and absence from work could result in the loss of days off or termination of your employment.
