STAFF HANDBOOK

STAFF CLASSES
Just as campers at Ramah devote time to Judaic study, all staff take part in staff classes which will begin during staff week; a wonderful opportunity for all of us to study together, as well as work together.

STAFF LOUNGE
Campers are not allowed in the Moadon Tzevet. This is to allow you to have a place in camp that you can call your own. In order to allow this privilege to continue, you are responsible to ensure that this room be kept clean and tidy.

STAFF PROGRAMMING
Staff recreational programs are held several times a week. Staff dances, a banquet, sports leagues, campfires, and ongei Shabbat have been highlights of past years' staff programming. Staff are encouraged to be involved in the planning and in the participation of these programs.

STAFF RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES
In addition to our defined responsibilities, each of us is responsible for the safety and well being of every camper, the maintenance of the physical plant and the success of all educational and recreational programs of the camp. We must also work toward creating an environment which stresses the importance and development of each individual human being, the values of kindness and responsibility for one another, the significance of Judaism in the daily life of our community, and the ability to live Jewishly and grow in all areas of life. All staff members are expected to carry out all assignments and duties outlined for them by their supervisors. While each staff member has been assigned a specific job, the camp reserves the right to re-assign any staff member to a different position, or to modify job definitions if it is deemed to be in the best interests of the camp.

STAFF TRAINING PROGRAM
ALL Staff will take part in our Hadracha program over the course of the summer. Sessions will be devoted to the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of being a counsellor and staff member at Ramah. These sessions will also involve Jewish text study and discussion of Jewish values. Each first year counsellor and specialist will also meet individually with an advisor, and will have the opportunity to discuss in small groups the challenges being encountered from actual camp experience.

TEFILOT
ALL staff are required to attend daily services and Shabbat services on Friday evening. Staff are encouraged to attend Mincha and Ma'ariv. This will set an example and encourage their campers to join their staff members in prayer. Shacharit is mandatory for campers and staff in T'zirim and above. Please remember to bring your Siddur and Chumash. All male staff members are required to wear both Kippa and Tzizit each morning.
