STAFF HANDBOOK

TRANSPORTATION TO CAMP
All new staff are expected to arrive at camp on Wednesday June 18, 2008. All returning staff are expected to arrive at camp on Thursday June 19. Staff must arrive by 3:30 p.m. No staff member may arrive late or leave early without prior approval from the Director, and in any such case will have a pro-rated amount deducted from their salary.

Staff must inform the camp of their travel arrangements in order to be eligible for travel reimbursement or to reserve a seat on the staff bus. Please return your Staff Transportation form today.

Staff members who CHOOSE not to take the staff bus and CHOOSE to drive to camp from the Toronto area will not be reimbursed for mileage or travel expenses. Staff members who cannot arrive on time at camp will not be reimbursed for travel expenses.

TRANSPORTATION IN AND OUT OF CAMP
On occasion, staff need to leave camp to attend college orientations, family events and the like. Unfortunately, camp does not always have the drivers, vehicles or time to take staff to and from bus and train stations. Staff are, therefore, strongly encouraged to arrange rides with a friend or relative.

TREATMENT OF CHILDREN
We have been given the rare opportunity to influence over 500 campers this summer. We have a chance to help them grow and help them learn about themselves and Judaism. We must never abuse this privilege.

The striking or other physical or sexual abuse or harassment of campers is grounds for immediate dismissal. In addition, the verbal abuse or harassment of campers is also grounds for dismissal.

It is important that you are responsible for the daily well being of our campers - physical, mental and social.Areas to be monitored include: daily hygiene, health related matters (daily medications, sunburns and bug bites, illness or injuries), group dynamics with peers and cabinmates, control of belongings, eating habits, behaviour changes, etc. If you feel you cannot adequately handle a situation it is your responsibility to ask for help from another counsellor, Rosh Edah, yoetz(et), camp doctor, nurse, or the Directors.
